Systemics is therefore interested in how the behaviour of the system emerges from the interactions among system parts. From this viewpoint, a system is a complex entity that has properties that do not belong to any of its constituent parts, but emerge from the relationships or interaction of its constituent parts. This is really what is meant by: the whole is more than the sum of its parts. The concept of a system is normally seen as a teleological entity – an entity with a purpose.
